Prayer of Adoration and Confession

     Words of Assurance                                                                            from Acts 10:43, NRSV

All the prophets testify about Christ that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.

God’s Will for Our Lives                                                               Colossians 3:1-4, NJB

Since you have been raised up to be with Christ, you must look for the things that are above, where Christ is, sitting at God’s right hand.  Let your thoughts be on things above, not on things that are on the earth, because you have died, and now the life you have is hidden with Christ in God.  But when Christ is revealed—and he is your life—you, too, will be revealed with him in glory.

Historical Perspective                                             Heidelberg Catechism Q & A 120 - 121

Why has Christ commanded us to address God: "Our Father"?

That at the very beginning of our prayer he may awaken in us the childlike

reverence and trust toward God which should be basic to our prayer, which is that God has become our Father through Christ and will much less deny us what we ask in faith than our human fathers and mothers will refuse us earthly things.

Why the words "in heaven"?

These words teach us not to think of God's heavenly majesty as something earthly, and to expect everything for body and soul from God's almighty power.

Responding to God’s Grace

  * Confession of Faith                                      based on selections from Belgic Confession, Art. 27

What do you believe about the church of Christ?

We believe and confess

one single catholic or universal church—

a holy congregation and gathering

of true Christian believers.

What binds them all together?

They await their entire salvation in Jesus Christ,

having been washed by his blood,

and sanctified and sealed by the Holy Spirit.

How big is this church?

This holy church is not confined,

bound, or limited to a certain place or certain persons.

But it is spread and dispersed

throughout the entire world,

though still joined and united

in heart and will,

in one and the same Spirit,

by the power of faith.

Our Tithes and Offerings

*   Doxology

  Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;

Praise Him, all creatures here below;

          Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;

Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.  Amen.

*   Prayer of Dedication of Gifts and Self

Sharing Our Joys and Concerns

Prayers of God’s People and Lord’s Prayer                                                 Traditional

          Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,

          thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

          Give us this day our daily bread.

          And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.

          And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.  Amen.

*   Hymn for Departing 560            “Blest Be the Tie That Binds”

*   Benediction                                                                                 2 Corinthians 13:13, NIV

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.  Amen!

*   Parting Chorus 544               “The Bond of Love”                                    verse 1

We are one in the bond of love,

We are one in the bond of love;

We have joined our spirit with the Spirit of God,

We are one in the bond of love.

Family Notes

If you loaned an arctic themed item to church for this month’s VBS program be sure to stop by the table in the gym during Fellowship and reclaim it.  Items still left after today will be stored in the John Room awaiting an owner.  Many sheets were brought in – if you don’t wish to have yours back, let the office know.  Coopersville Cares would be thrilled to have them as dust covers for items at their annual benefit sale.

The Coopersville Cares Annual Benefit Sale will be held August 20-21.  Men and women volunteers are needed to help set up and tear down the sale location at Grace Lutheran Church beginning on Monday, August 16.  Please see the sign up sheet in the narthex if you’re able to give of your time.   Donations of good useable clothing, toys, furniture and household items will be accepted on Tuesday, August 17, and Wednesday, August 18, 12:30-9PM, at Grace Lutheran.

You Are Invited!  There will be a prayer meeting held at Lamont Christian School on Monday, July 26, at 7 PM in the library.  All staff, parents, and supporters of Lamont are invited and encouraged to attend.  We want to pray for God’s direction and wisdom for the coming year.

Men’s Breakfast at Coopersville Reformed Church – Saturday, July 31,

7-8:15AM in the Activity Center.  Breakfast will be provided (donations appreciated) and there are no sign ups needed.  Just show up and bring your sons, friends, and neighbors.  Guest speaker will be Seth McCullough of Ravenna, owner of Bully’s Game Calls – maker of turkey calls.

Cran-Hill Ranch’s Annual Ironhorse Golf Marathon is scheduled for August 25.  If you are interested in golfing 100 holes for this event to raise funds for the camp, or if you are willing to sponsor someone who’s already golfing, please contact Scott Barger at 231/796-7669 or sbarger @ cranhillranch . com.
