How Does Your Garden Grow

Thinking of planting flowers? Vegetables? Here are thoughts for a great garden:

Plant five rows of Peas:
   Planning
   Preparation
   Patience
   Perseverance
   Prayer

Include three rows of Squash:
   Squash Negativity
   Squash Indifference
   Squash Temptation

Add six rows of Lettuce:
   Let us be Positive
   Let us take Responsibility
Let us be Thoughtful of Others
   Let us be Forgiving
Let us be Empowered by the Holy Spirit
Let us Praise the Lord our God

No garden is complete without Turnips:
Turn up with a Positive Attitude
   Turn up with a Smile
   Turn up with New Ideas
   Turn up at Worship

May your garden flourish!

Give us your feedback – what do you think?

In an effort to save paper resources and financial resources there are plans to switch the monthly Family Ties to e-copies this summer. The COS website will have the entire newsletter available and an email will be sent out each month with a link when it’s ready to view. If you do not have access to the internet a paper copy can be placed in your narthex mailbox. If you prefer the paper newsletter over the electronic copy please let the office know.

Baby Shower The ladies of the congregation are invited to join us in showering blessings on Lisa and Brianna Kingma. Please join us Saturday, May 3, at 11AM in the COS Lounge for a luncheon in honor of little Brianna.

Church Herald April 2008

The April 2008 issue of the Church Herald has arrived and is in the COS Library for your review.

From the Thursday morning Bible Study:
A baby asked God, "They tell me you are sending me to earth tomorrow, but how am I going to live there being so small and helpless?" God said, "Your angel will be waiting for you and will take care of you."

The child further inquired, "But tell me, here in heaven I don't have to do anything but sing and smile to be happy." God said, "Your angel will sing for you and will also smile for you. And you will feel your angel's love and be very happy."

Again the child asked, "And how am I going to be able to understand when people talk to me if I don't know the language?" God said, "Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet words you will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your angel will teach you how to speak." "And what am I going to do when I want to talk to you?" God said, "Your angel will place your hands together and will teach you how to pray."

"Who will protect me?" God said, "Your angel will defend you even if it means risking its life."

"But I will always be sad because I will not see you anymore." God said, "Your angel will always talk to you about Me and will teach you the way to come back to Me, even though I will always be next to you."

At that moment there was much peace in Heaven, but voices from Earth could be heard and the child hurriedly asked, "God, if I am to leave now, please tell me my angel's name."

God said, "You will simply call her Mom."

April 1st...
In Florida, an atheist became incensed over the preparation of Easter and Passover holidays. He decided to contact his lawyer about the discrimination inflicted on atheists by the constant celebrations afforded to Christians and Jews with all their holidays while atheists had no holiday to celebrate.

The case was brought before a judge. After listening to the long passionate presentation by the lawyer, the Judge banged his gavel and declared, "Case dismissed!"

The lawyer immediately stood and objected to the ruling and said, "Your Honor, how can you possibly dismiss this case? The Christians have Christmas, Easter and many other observances. Jews have Passover, Yom Kippur and Hanukkah...yet my client and all other atheists have no such holiday!"

The judge leaned forward in his chair and simply said, "Obviously your client is too confused to even know about, much less celebrate his own atheists' holiday!"

The lawyer pompously said, "Your Honor, we are unaware of any such holiday for atheists. Just when might that holiday be, your Honor?"

The judge said, "Well, it comes every year on exactly the same date---April 1st! Since our calendar sets April 1st as April Fools Day, consider that Psalm 14:1 states, 'The fool says in his heart, there is no God.' Thus, in my opinion, if your client says there is no God, then by scripture, he is a fool, and April1st is his holiday! Now have a good day and get out of my courtroom!"

Healing HandsHealing Hands Team – March 2008
Nearly every roof of each house and church was covered with a "U S AID" silver tarp in all the villages we served. The eye of Hurricane Felix destroyed virtually 100 percent of the homes and some of the churches in the NE corner of Nicaragua. Although reconstruction was going well, wood and corrugated metal are now in short supply.

The medical group worked seven straight days. Eyeglasses were fitted and the dentist cleaned and pulled teeth. Family pictures were distributed and hair was cut and styled. The children were attended full time and all patients were dewormed.

We met a local doctor who serves 13 villages on a monthly rotation. He was happy to join the team for two days and his dedication was a real inspiration to us. Dr. Alexander is a Miskito Indian and was trilingual, including English. He will follow up with the long term illnesses that we could not treat completely.

Your prayers were again felt and appreciated. We praise and glorify our risen Saviour together.
